# Instant replay

Instant replay saves a bug after it happened. Faylee keeps the last few minutes of every page you have open, ready to save, so when something breaks you do not have to reproduce it. Click save, and the minutes before become a report.

## Saving a replay

Click the Faylee icon in the toolbar and click **Save the last 2 min**, or press <kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>I</kbd> (<kbd>Control</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>I</kbd> on a Mac). The row's label follows how far back it reaches.

Faylee gathers what it kept for the tab and opens the review over the page. There you can trim the replay, give it a title and description, and share it the same way as a recording. Nothing is uploaded until you share. See [Review and share](https://faylee.app/docs/capture/review-and-share.md).

## What a replay contains

A replay has no video. Instead, Faylee records the page itself as it changes, and the viewer rebuilds it, so a replay plays back like a video and you can still inspect the page at any moment. Alongside it are the same things a recording keeps:

- Every console message and error.
- Every network request with its headers, and the bodies of text requests and responses.
- Your clicks, typing, key presses, scrolling and page changes, as steps.
- The browser, system, window size and network.
- Anything your app passed to `window.faylee.metadata()`.

Password fields, card number fields, one-time code fields and anything marked with `data-faylee-mask` are masked in the page replay.

## How far back

The chevron on the replay row opens **Instant replay options**, where **How far back** offers:

| Option | Keeps |
| --- | --- |
| 30s | The last 30 seconds |
| 1 min | The last minute |
| 2 min | The last 2 minutes (the default) |
| 5 min | The last 5 minutes |

The same choice is in the extension's settings under **Instant replay**. Faylee keeps this much of every page at all times, and drops anything older as it goes.

## Turning it off

In the extension's settings, under **Instant replay**, turn off **Keep a rolling replay of every page**. The **Save the last** row then disappears from the popup.

A workspace admin can also turn instant replay off for everyone in the workspace. The extension's settings then say "Your workspace turned instant replay off. Recordings and screenshots still work."

:::note
Screenshots carry the same recent context as an instant replay, so they need it on. With instant replay off, a screenshot taken outside a recording says that Faylee is not capturing the page.

## Privacy

What instant replay keeps stays in your browser. Nothing leaves it until you review a replay and share it, and secrets such as tokens, cookies, authorization headers and password fields are hidden before that upload.

- **Incognito windows never keep a replay.** People open them to leave no trace, so Faylee does not keep a rolling history there.
- **Sites you block are never captured.** Add hosts under **Never capture these sites** in the extension's settings, under **Privacy**. Subdomains are included. Your workspace can block sites for everyone as well.
- **Browser pages are never captured**, including the new tab page and the Chrome Web Store.

See [Privacy and redaction](https://faylee.app/docs/workspace/privacy.md) for the rules your workspace can set.
