# Screenshots

A screenshot is the quickest report. It is still more than an image: Faylee attaches the same console, network requests and steps as an [instant replay](https://faylee.app/docs/capture/instant-replay.md), so whoever opens it sees what led up to the moment you captured.

## Taking a screenshot

Click the Faylee icon in the toolbar and click **Capture screenshot** to capture the visible area of the page, or press <kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> (<kbd>Control</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> on a Mac).

The chevron on the row opens **Screenshot options**:

- **Visible area**: what you see in the tab.
- **Select an area**: drag a rectangle over the page. Press <kbd>Esc</kbd> to cancel, and nothing is saved.
- **Full page**: Faylee scrolls through the page, captures it one screen at a time, and stitches the pieces into one image. It puts the scroll position back afterwards. Very long pages are cut off at 16,000 pixels.
- **Blur parts of the page first**: hide parts of the page before you capture. See below.

Password fields, card number fields, one-time code fields and anything marked with `data-faylee-mask` are blurred in the image itself.

## Blurring before you capture

**Blur parts of the page first** turns the pointer into a picker. Hover to see what a click would blur, click to blur it, and click it again to show it. Press <kbd>Esc</kbd> when done, then take the screenshot.

What you blur stays blurred on that site, on later visits and in every recording and screenshot. The screenshot options then say how many parts of the site stay blurred, with **Show all** to clear them.

## The editor

When the screenshot is taken, Faylee opens the review over the page with the image in an editor. The toolbar has:

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Pen | Draws freehand |
| Rectangle | Draws a box |
| Circle | Draws a circle |
| Arrow | Draws an arrow |
| Line | Draws a straight line |
| Text | Places text where you click |
| Blur an area | Pixelates a rectangle of the image |
| Move marks | Drags a mark you already drew |

Pick a colour from the colour button. **Undo**, **Redo** and **Remove all marks** are at the end of the toolbar.

The image you share is the one with your marks drawn in. Pixelated areas are drawn into the pixels, so what is under them is not in the shared image.

### The last-click box

If you clicked something on the page in the 30 seconds before the screenshot, the editor starts with a box around it, since that is usually what the screenshot is about. Undo it like any other mark if you do not want it.

## What else is attached

Besides the image, a screenshot report carries:

- The console messages, errors, network requests and steps from the page's recent past, as far back as your [instant replay window](https://faylee.app/docs/capture/instant-replay#how-far-back).
- A replay of the page, so the viewer can show what the page looked like before the screenshot.
- The browser, system, window size and network.
- Anything your app passed to `window.faylee.metadata()`.
- Your marks as data, each with the element on the page it points at, so someone reading the report without seeing the image knows what you meant.

When you mark up a screenshot with anything other than blurs, Faylee also attaches a copy without your marks, blurs kept, as `screenshot-without-marks.png`.

:::note
Because a screenshot carries the recent context, it needs instant replay on, or a recording running on the tab.

## Sharing

Give the screenshot a title, choose what to include, and share it. See [Review and share](https://faylee.app/docs/capture/review-and-share.md).
