# Install the extension

Getting set up takes three things: a workspace for your recordings, the Faylee extension in your browser, and a connection between the two so the extension knows where to upload. The extension works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc.

## Create a workspace

1. Go to [app.faylee.app/users/sign-up](https://app.faylee.app/users/sign-up).
2. Sign up with your email and a password, or with Google when the button is offered. Signing up creates a workspace with you as its owner.
3. Follow the short welcome steps. If you signed up with a company address, Faylee emails you a six-digit code to confirm it, and you name your workspace. If your company already has a workspace open to your email domain, you are offered to join it instead.
4. Tell Faylee your name and the kind of work you do. You then land in your library.

If someone invited you, open the link in the invitation email instead. You join their workspace and only see the last step.

## Install the extension

Faylee is not in the Chrome Web Store yet. Install the extension from the link on the getting started screen in Faylee:

1. In your empty library, find the **Install the extension** card and click **Download the extension**. **Install steps** opens the same instructions on a page of their own. If the card shows **Install and connect** instead, click it for the same page.
2. Unzip the download. On a Mac, double click it in Downloads.
3. Open `chrome://extensions` and turn on **Developer mode**, top right.
4. Click **Load unpacked** and choose the unzipped folder.

Pages that were already open when you installed Faylee are picked up without reloading them.

:::note
When a newer build is published, the extension's popup says "A newer Faylee is available". Download it, unzip it over the old folder, and click the reload icon on Faylee in `chrome://extensions`.

## Connect your browser to the workspace

The extension uploads recordings to your workspace with a token of its own, so each browser you record from needs to be connected once.

1. Click the Faylee icon in the toolbar. Until it is connected, the popup shows **Connect to your Faylee workspace**.
2. Click it. The **Connect the Faylee extension** page opens in Faylee.
3. Click **Connect this browser**. The page says "Connected. You can close this tab and record from the toolbar."

You can also start from the web app: the **Install steps** page has the same **Connect this browser** button below the install steps. If the page says the extension was not found, install it, then reload the page.

The popup also offers **Sign in with email and password instead**, for when you would rather not go through the web app.

You can connect as many browsers as you like. Once one is connected, the getting started card shows **Extension connected** with **Connect another browser**. Each connected browser is listed under Settings, **Browsers and tokens**, with when it was connected and last used, and each can be revoked on its own.

## Pin the extension

Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle piece icon in the toolbar. Click the puzzle piece, find Faylee, and click the pin next to it. Faylee's icon then stays in the toolbar, where you start captures and where it shows **REC** while a recording runs.
