# Sharing and embeds

Every recording has one share link, such as `https://app.faylee.app/s/AbC123xYz0`. Who can open that link is up to you. People in your workspace can always open it.

## Who can open a recording

A new recording is **Workspace only**. To change that, open the recording, choose the arrow beside **Copy link**, then **Who can open it…**. The **Share** dialog offers three choices:

| Choice | Who can open the link |
|---|---|
| **Workspace only** | People signed in to your workspace. Anyone else is asked to sign in. |
| **Anyone with the link** | Anyone who has the link, without an account. |
| **Anyone with the link and password** | Anyone who has the link and types the password. |

Press **Save** to apply the change. Each change is recorded in the [audit log](https://faylee.app/docs/workspace/security#audit-log).

The recording page and the share page show the same recording. People outside your workspace see it without the recording's actions, so they can't edit, triage or file it, and they can read comments but not add them.

### Passwords

Choose **Anyone with the link and password** and type a **Password** of at least 6 characters. People who open the link are asked for it before they see anything. Once they unlock it, their browser stays unlocked for that recording for the rest of the session.

To change the password later, type a new one. Leave the field empty to keep the current one.

### Expiring links

When a link is open to people outside the workspace, **Link stops working** sets an expiry: **Never**, **In 1 day**, **In 7 days** or **In 30 days**. After it expires, people outside the workspace see that the link has expired and are asked to get a new one. People in your workspace can still open it.

### Hiding the developer details

When a recording has a video or screenshot and is open outside the workspace, **Include console, network and steps** decides what outsiders see. It is on by default. Turn it off when you send a recording to a customer: they see the video or screenshot and the description only. People in your workspace always see everything.

An instant replay has no video, so its share link always includes the console, network and steps.

## Copying the link

**Copy link** in the recording's header copies the share link. **Copy a link to this moment** in the player copies the link set to the current time. See [The viewer](https://faylee.app/docs/viewer/overview#linking-to-a-moment).

## Embedding a recording

A recording set to **Anyone with the link**, and not expired, can be embedded in another page. Choose the arrow beside **Copy link**, then **Copy embed code**. The code is an `<iframe>`:

```html
<iframe src="https://app.faylee.app/embed/AbC123xYz0" width="960" height="600" style="border:0" allow="fullscreen"></iframe>
```

The embed shows the player with its timeline and devtools, and an **Open in Faylee** link to the full share page. It has no description or comments. When **Include console, network and steps** is off, the embed shows only the video or screenshot.

Recordings that are **Workspace only** or need a password can't be embedded. An embed of a recording that later becomes private, or expires, shows that the recording is unavailable.

## Previews and unfurling

Faylee supports oEmbed, so pasting a share link into a tool that reads oEmbed, such as Notion, Linear or Confluence, embeds the player instead of a plain link. Chat apps and social sites that read link previews show the title, the description with the number of errors and failed requests, and a thumbnail.

Only recordings anyone may open describe themselves. A link to a recording that is Workspace only, needs a password or has expired shows a generic preview, so pasting it never reveals its title.

When your workspace has connected the Faylee Slack app, share links posted in Slack unfurl too. See [Slack](https://faylee.app/docs/integrations/slack.md).

## Custom link domain

Your workspace can send share, embed and recording links on a domain of your own, such as `bugs.acme.com`, so customers see your name instead of Faylee's. Only workspace admins can set it up.

1. Open **Settings**, then **Sites**.
2. Under **Domain for links**, type the domain and press **Save**.
3. At your DNS provider, add the two records the card shows:

   ```text
   bugs.acme.com                    CNAME  app.faylee.app
   _faylee-challenge.bugs.acme.com   TXT    <token from the card>
   ```

4. Press **Verify**.

Once the domain is verified, every link Faylee hands out uses it: the copy buttons, recording links, emails, Slack, issue trackers, help desks and the API.

Only the share, embed and recording-link pages are served on your domain, and only for your workspace's recordings. Anything else, such as signing in, goes to Faylee's own address, so sign-in cookies never live on your domain. **Remove** goes back to Faylee's address.

## Moving a recording to the trash

**Move to trash**, in the same menu, takes a recording out of the library. Its share link stops working at once. You can restore it from the trash for 30 days. See [Storage and retention](https://faylee.app/docs/workspace/storage#trash).
