Drawing, blurring and suggesting
While you record, the control bar has tools that work on the page itself: Draw to point at things, Blur to hide what should not be filmed, and Suggest a change to show how the page should look. You can pick them from the bar, from the toolbar popup, or with the keyboard.
| Tool | Where | Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Draw | On the bar | Alt+Shift+D |
| Blur | On the bar | Alt+Shift+B |
| Suggest a change | In the bar’s “more” menu | Alt+Shift+E |
On a Mac the shortcuts use Option+Shift. They work while a recording runs and leave text fields alone, so typing is never interrupted. Picking a tool again, or pressing Esc, gives the page back.
When you pick a tool from the toolbar popup, the popup closes so you can use it on the page.
Draw puts a toolbar at the top of the page and lets you mark over it. The marks are in the video.
The tools are Pen, Rectangle, Circle, Arrow, Line, Text and Blur an area, with a colour button, Undo, Redo and Remove all marks.
- Marks stay on the page until you clear them. The clock button switches to marks that fade a few seconds after the last one you drew, which suits pointing at one thing after another.
- The hand, Use the page, keeping the marks, lets your clicks reach the page again while the marks stay where they are.
- The close button, or Esc, stops drawing. The marks you made stay.
While you draw, the page does not receive your clicks, so drawing never presses a button by accident.
Each mark is also recorded as data with the element it points at, and when it was removed. The viewer shows marks on the timeline, and the assistant and coding agents can tell what you pointed at without watching the video.
Blur turns the pointer into a picker. Hover to see what a click would blur, and click to blur it. Click a blurred element to show it again. Press Esc when done.
- The element is blurred in the video and in screenshots, and masked in the page replay from that moment on.
- The choice is remembered for the site, so the element stays blurred on later visits and in every later recording and screenshot.
- While the picker is open, your clicks do not reach the page and are not recorded as steps.
If you build the site, you can mark elements to blur for everyone with the data-faylee-mask attribute or the faylee-mask class. See Privacy and redaction.
Suggest a change
Section titled “Suggest a change”Suggest a change lets you show how the page should look instead of describing it. The page shows “Click something to change how it looks or what it says. Esc when done.”
- Click an element. A Suggest a change panel opens next to it.
- Change its Text, when it has text of its own, or any of these properties:
color,background-color,font-size,font-weight,padding,margin,border-radius,widthanddisplay. - Each change applies to the page as soon as you leave the field or press Enter, so it is in the video.
- Click Done, then click another element or press Esc.
Every change is recorded with the element, the property, and the value before and after. In the viewer they are listed under the description as How it should look, each linked to its moment in the video. Copy as CSS copies all of them as CSS rules, ready to paste. The assistant reads them too, as part of what you expected.
The changes are only on your screen. Reloading the page puts it back.
Camera
Section titled “Camera”Turn on Camera in the recording options before you start, or from the bar’s “more” menu while recording. Your webcam shows in a rounded bubble in the bottom left corner of the page. Drag it anywhere.
The camera runs inside Faylee, not the site, so the site never asks for or gets access to it. The bubble is on the page, so it is part of a tab recording’s video. Turn the camera off from the same menu to hide it.
