Review and share
Every capture, whether a recording, an instant replay or a screenshot, stops at a review before anything is uploaded. You check what was captured, cut what you do not need, say what went wrong, and choose where it goes. Nothing leaves your browser until you click share.
Where the review opens
Section titled “Where the review opens”The review opens over the page you captured, so you stay where the bug is. Its heading says what you are sharing: Share this recording, Share this replay or Share this screenshot. If it cannot open over the page, it opens in a tab of its own.
On the left is the capture: the video, a summary of the instant replay, or the screenshot in its editor. On the right is the form.
Videos and instant replays have a Trim bar under the preview. Drag its handles to the start and end of the part to keep. The preview plays only that part.
The striped parts, and everything captured during them, are removed before upload. That includes the console messages, requests and steps from those moments, not only the video. For a video, Faylee also cuts the stored file after upload, so the cut part is gone rather than hidden. Until that finishes, the share link shows a waiting page.
Title and description
Section titled “Title and description”Title is required and starts with the page’s title. What went wrong? is optional. Expected against actual behaviour helps whoever picks it up.
Faylee can draft both for you when the review opens:
- If your browser is connected and your workspace has the assistant turned on, the assistant drafts them from the capture.
- Otherwise, if Chrome has its built-in on-device model ready, Faylee asks it instead. It reads a few lines about the page, the steps, the errors and the failed requests, and nothing leaves your device.
- If neither is available, there is no draft and the form works as usual.
A drafted title shows under the title field as Suggested:, with (use) to take it. A drafted description shows in the empty What went wrong? field. Press Tab in the empty field to use it, or type your own.
Share as
Section titled “Share as”Share as, at the top of the form, decides what sharing makes besides the link:
- Link you can share: the recording is uploaded and you get its link.
- Share via email: also emails the link to the addresses you type in To, separated by commas. What you wrote in What went wrong? goes in the email. The button reads Share and send.
- An issue in a connected tracker: each issue tracker your workspace connected is listed, such as a Linear or Jira issue. Faylee files the issue right after the upload, with the link and the report in its body. The button reads Share and create followed by the tracker’s issue.
The picker starts at the tracker you filed in last, or at a plain link. If you are a workspace admin, trackers that are not connected yet are listed with Connect, which opens the workspace’s settings. See Issue trackers.
Folder and attachments
Section titled “Folder and attachments”Folder shows when your workspace has folders, and files the recording in the one you pick.
Attachments takes logs, HAR files or anything else that helps, up to 25 MB each. Files over that are left out, and the form says which.
Choose what to include
Section titled “Choose what to include”Under Included, Console, Network and Steps each show how many entries they hold. Sockets shows too when the page had WebSocket or EventSource connections. Click one to leave the whole section out of the upload.
Failed requests lists the requests that failed. Leave out any single one with the button on its row, for example a request that has nothing to do with the bug.
What is hidden before upload
Section titled “What is hidden before upload”Faylee hides secrets in your browser, before the upload, every time:
- Headers:
Authorization,Proxy-Authorization,Cookie,Set-Cookie,X-API-Key,X-Auth-Token,X-CSRF-Token,X-XSRF-TokenandX-Amz-Security-Tokenare replaced with[redacted]. - Fields: in JSON bodies, form bodies, query strings, console output and your app’s metadata, keys that look like secrets are replaced. That covers keys containing
password, secret, apikey, privatekey, cardnumber, cvv, cvcorssn, keys ending intoken, cookie, sessionid, otp, ibanorauthorization, and the keysauth, pin, sessionandsid. Case, dashes and underscores are ignored, soaccess_tokenandsessionIdcount. - Values: anything that looks like a JSON Web Token, a
Bearer,BasicorTokencredential, or a password inside a URL is replaced wherever it appears. - Typing: what you type into password, card number and one-time code fields is never recorded.
You can add header names and field names of your own in the extension’s settings, under Privacy: Also hide these headers and Also hide these fields. Your workspace’s rules apply on top of yours, and you cannot remove them. See Privacy and redaction.
Click Share. A bar shows the upload’s progress. When it is done:
- The link is copied to your clipboard, and the review says “Shared. The link is on your clipboard.”
- When the review is open over the page, the recording opens in a new tab and the review closes. In a tab of its own, the review shows the link with Open the recording.
- If you chose a tracker, the issue is filed. If the tracker is not answering, Faylee keeps trying and links the issue once it exists. If the tracker refuses the issue, the review stays open and says why. The recording is shared either way.
The recording is visible to your workspace. To let people outside open it, change Who can open it… on the recording. See Sharing and embeds.
Drafts and discarding
Section titled “Drafts and discarding”Close the review with the close button or Esc and the capture is kept as a draft in your browser. Find it in the toolbar popup under Recent captures, in Not shared yet, and click it to open its review again. The same list shows your recent uploads under Shared.
Discard deletes the capture, and everything captured with it, from your browser after you confirm. It cannot be undone.
